We currently made an order of AVAYA 1408 phones for a client of ours. We noticed that the new phones had no printed label under the buttons (like hold, transfer, conference...). is this normal for the new models or is it an issue.. I mean the label print was not done by mistake?!

Thanks,

This is normal, it was designed to make the phones more universal and to not alienate non English people.

It's called the 'International' version and has a new part number.
Happened a year ago.

I like to think that even though the concept lives on, the genius who thought of it is growing things from his bottom even science cannot explain.

What if there was no Boolean logic?

Somewhere someone must have complained a lot since they thought it was a good move.

They ran out of ink and made the excuse to have them "internationalized"

cheap cheap cheap avaya....

To bad they haven't two versions.

The old ones with the labels and the new 'Internationalized'

But then they will not sell a single 'Internationalized' version anymore...

Perhaps they thought to sell more face plates that way...

To be honest I'm not sure. We had one to test years ago and found out that if they are not really exactly put on the phone some buttons can hang. Second is that they have been to expensive.

They wouldn't sell any anyway, people wouldn't buy them out of principal. The whole idea behind it was shaving a few cents off the production costs. They can dress it up as globalisation and saying it's the universal language of icons.... But they where already shipped globally and the icons where already there...pure bullshit :)

We heard that they are saving millions and there is next to zero chance they will bring the labels back. So much for listening to your partner network!
