Is there a listing of MSI files available somewhere that I can review? I'd like to be able to deploy software through GPO (like Adobe), but it seems like not everyone makes MSI files available.
I guess I'm sorta confused. Some comapnies such as Adobe give you access to an MSI file during a locl install which can be used to deploy thru GPO's. However, other softawre like Real Player doesn't have one.
Does this mean I have to repackage one myself? If so, I can't seem to find any instrauctions on how to do so, and what parameters to use for each and every software on this site.
You can also use WinInstall LE to create MSI file but unfortunatly they started charging for the 2003 version, you can find the 2000 version on the Windows 2000 Server CD.
I never had a lot of luck using WinInstall LE to create application packages, but I didn't really dig too deeply.
Depending on the software vendor there may be a separate link to download an MSI-based installer for their applications. Some applications (especially free ones) may not want you to use an MSI for an automated deployment, since they want to collect email addresses and such in exchange for allowing you to install the software.
