We have an NT Workstation that keeps getting this error message "Autoupdate not configured, Some registry settings are missing, please contact your systems admin for assistance". We can 't figure out what is causing this. We removed antivirus, Netscape, Internet Explorer Update features. Not even sure if it is an NT error or an app error. This computer is running SQL which shuts down when this error occurs. We need to restart. Any ideas?

Does anything appear in event viewer to give you more clues as to source of messages?

How difficult to reinstall NT? (If not too many apps, only takes 30-60 minutes).

You could try monitoring software - eg, regmon & filemon from to try to identify source.

disabled autoupdate in the Control Panel? if you removed IE update without disabling that feature - set by IE, if I remember good - NT tries to start autoupdate without having the necessary files, causing more trouble than before.

Thanks for the reply. There is nothing in event viewer that indicated why this message is appearing and I have disabled autoupdate in the control panel. I'm not even sure where this message is coming from.. the OS or IE or SQL.

Maybe I'll try reinstalling NT.
