Trying to setup a computer for daily automatic backups of office records onto a CDRW drive. I had it set to burn the backups with the user performing a few clicks. That did not work since people forget or the person that is suppose to do it is not in on that day.
I've tried the MS "backup" program but I get an error message that the "E" drive (CDRW) is not available or I do not have access.
Built the machine with new CDRW and Ahead Nero program. I have been able to burn CD's with the CDRW using Nero.
Any help would be greatfully appriciated.
Thanks
John

Thanks for the advise, it's no wonder I check here for the answers to the problems that I can't figure out.

It's been years since I've used DOS commands. In scheduled tasks I can get the "backup" program to launch but not the configuration or ini file. I'm running Windows2000 if that helps.
Thanks again

why dont u run a batch file that calls the program and the ini file.

I used a batch file but only the exe will run. The ini file returns a "bad command or file name" error.
I've checked the name and location of the ini file but am unable to get it to launch.
Thanks again

If you have a formatted CD-Rewritable in there you can use this in a batch which you put in your scheduler.

Lets assume your data is in C:\Documents and Settings\John\mydocu~1 and your CD-Letter is E:

Then your bat-file would look like this

c:
cdcd\Documents and Settings\Marc\mydocu~1
@xcopy *.* /i/d/f/h/r/k/s/e/v/y E:\Backup

You will then find in E:\Backup all recent docs. New ones will be added and changed ones will be overwritten IF it is a re-writable CD.

If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, expect random guesses or no replies at all. Please specify details.

I agree with marcs41

Have a look at this article.

Tried that batch file, got "invalid drive specification" trying to launch the file.
Thanks again

Recheck what I said before. The drive has to be formatted and of course you may need to change the E: to match your drive letter!
