Automating Test Data Form 1

I would like to make a simple MS Word 2007 Template that does the following:
1) Based on a Test data form, I would like to jump sequentially from field to field based on pressing the "enter" key at end of data entry.

2) The data field entry sequence would be as follows:
1st) Product Serial Number (4 numeric only digits).
2nd) Program name (text and numerals).
3rd) Test date (todays date locked to the form being entered).
4th) Check boxes for verifying correct communications received.

If I could see the proper format for doing the data field sequence I believe I could take it from there.

hi,

I'm a tad biased, but if it were me, Excel would seem a better tool for doing what you have described.

But have you looked at FormFields in Word Help?

The forms I want to automate are all in MS Word 2007.
They have been released to the customers and it wouldn't be easy to make the forms different (many, many hoops to jump thru!!).

I have looked quite a bit but haven't seen anything that does this job.

Yes, I have checked all the MS Help categories I can think of and Googled them as well.

It seems like it shouldn't be this hard to do a simple form automation!

Ok, I give up...if Excel is the best way to do it then let's use Excel.

You can accomplish the " jump sequentially from field to field based on pressing the "enter" key at end of data entry" in Excel, by

1. SELECT all cells > right-click > select > FORMAT CELLS -- Protection TAB -- Check LOCKED.

2. SELECT each cell OR the RANGE of cells that you will "jump" to, in order to enter data. On the Protextion TAB -- UNcheck LOCKED.

3. Ribbon Tab REVIEW > Changes > Protect Sheet and choose how you want to protect your sheet.

NOW as you enter data, your selection will "jump" to the next entry cell.
