Is there a way to automate this? I currently just click on every other horizontal line and change the color.

Thanks!

search this forum for plenty of examples - basisi is to use either the INT or MOD frunction to determine even / odd rows and apply conditional formatting dependant on the result

I finally found it via google.com. It was hard to ask for what I wanted, I didn't know the correct terminology. I did a search here but nothing produced. I mainly use Excel to process CVS files. :)

You can use Excel's conditional formatting feature to highlight every other row in a spreadsheet, similar to the old-style green bar paper. To do so, select the portion of the spreadsheet that you wish to format, and then choose Format | Conditional Formatting. Change Cell Value Is to Formula Is and enter this formula:
=MOD(ROW(),2) <> 0
Click the Format button, and then under Patterns select the color of your choice. Click OK twice.

for anyone interested, you can actually search THIS site as well. I searched for "Colour Alternate Rows" and it came up with 5 threads, one of which is this:

5 stars - can't be bad

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you can not search this web forum. I did a search on here, but couldn't come up with anything because I didn't know how to ask what I needed to know. I did a search for "highlight every other horizontal row" in several different combinations with and without some of those words. Nothing yielded any info.

generally best combo is to use about 3 words and ask for "ALL words" rather than "exact phrase"

btw - I'm not being pedantic but in excel ALL horizontal lines are rows - verticals are columns - it was probably the "horizontal" that threw the search engine !
