Hi,

I know this sounds nuts but over the next few weeks i have to visit 420 odd machines and perform the same bloody installation on them all , I have pointed out to the powers that exist in this pond that i could push the whoile lot using ad and group policy but that is verboten, i think they like making it tricky.

one of the tasks is the creation of an account with admin privelegs on each machine and i'm getting pissed off with the whole right click/manage>users bit.. what i would like to know is can i script the creation of this user so that one mouse click and its done.... it is the same account on each machine.. any pointers in this direction would be greatfully recieved, thank you...

will

net user 'username' 'password' /add
net localgroup Administrators 'username' /add
net accounts /maxpwage:unlimited

Put this into a cmd file and it should work to add a simple user with local administrative rights. HOpe this works.

thank you, works a treat.. i have a few more questions but you've given me enough to find the answers on my own ... cheers

btw.. for any one else browsing the same question .. it also works on XP Pro

Hi!

I have a laptop that I have been given. The previous owner never used a password to logon. The previous owner, on being told that the laptop now asks for a passwork has given me the two only passowrds she has ever used.

I have tried every permutation of user name and password that I, and other tekkies can think of but it wont accept anything.

Is there a way I can get round this without restoring lap top to factory setting and losing all?

Gill

Are you able to logon in safe mode with the administrator account? If so there is a possibility that you can reset the password. There are utilities out there as well that you can create a boot disk and then reset the password with a command line type command.
