Hello,

Can any of the POS Gurus please assist me with this problem. Aloha TS Version 5.2.8.224, Operating System: Windows XP Pro.

Everything works right except ONE thing. When a bartender takes a customer's credit card and swipes it to open a new tab, the Aloha system AUTOMATICALLY creates two tabs. One tab has some sort of 6 digit number assigned, along with the ordered drinks and a preauthorization for the credit card and the other tab has the customer's name, no preauthorization and the same drinks/ items. I don't know how to get it to stop doing this and I have looked at EVERYTHING I can think of. It makes it BRUTAL when we get busy. This is a very high volume place and we have a gazillion Aloha tickets opened cause they are duplicates. I've looked in every option under system settings, access levels and job codes and cannot figure out how to stop this. If this sounds remotely familiar to anyone, please throw me a bone and help me out ASAP!! I set the system up and the Bar Owners are pretty peeved about it! Thanks!!

Your credit card reader is not setup correctly.
State what type of reader you have and someone might be able
to help you.Built in or keyboard wedge. opos or keyboard

Make sure its reading track 1 and 2.
There also maybe Aloha adjustments needed.

wow... that would totally make sense. Well, we bought all in one terminals, with built in readers, so I'm assuming they would be built in readers. From what I could tell, they do not plug in to the keyboard port on the computer. The only thing that worries me, though, is that I checked other bar's Aloha Manager and they don't specify the type of card reader, but then again, this version of table service is much older. When I check the Aloha manager, under hardware, terminals, there's a tab that says "readers". It looks like there, you can choose to use either magnetic stripe reader, bar code reader, pen reader or thumb scanner. Under magnetic stripe reader, I have one of two choices; either OPOS MSR or Keyboard/Wedge. I went through all of the terminals and noticed that when I toggle the option to use the Magnetic stripe reader, some of the terminals automatically fill in a field under the type of reader that says OPOS with this: ncrmsr.2. However, some of them don't. Should I put that in the OPOS field for all terminals?

So to sum it up, should I check the box for magnetic stripe reader, then choose OPOS MSR or KEYBOARD/WEDGE? Finally, should I fill in "ncrmsr.2" in the OPOS field? Last, I see where it says "track 2 only". I'm assuming I should leave this unchecked?

Thanks for the help!!!

State what type of computer/model you have and someone might be able to help you.

It looks like ncr.

what is model number. eg 7460, 7443-21 etc...

Each one setup can be setup different and can be run in MSR or OPOS.

I believe it's a Mercury 820 All In One Pos with 15 Elo Touch P 1.6GH 1G 80G. I've used them with various Aloha POS versions and never had to configure anything with the credit card reader. That's why I'm confused as to why this is going on. Thank you for any and all advice you can give me on this one!

I dont have TS running so I cant look it up, but there is a setup somewhere in like store settings > Order Entry > tabs and tables or thereabouts that makes it so bartenders can start a tab with a card swipe. It may be related somehow. See if you can find and disable that.

Also, see if this is set in store settings > tabs and tables: Auto New Order — Prompts the bartender to open a new tab when the bartender enters items on an open tab. It is for use by the bar only.

Maybe if this is turned on, along with the card swipe thing, they dont realize they are actually opening two tabs every time?
