I'm unable to automatically shutdown and turn off my computer from the OS (Windows 2000 server). How does this function work? Is it something to do with the BIOS? I get the follwoing message after I attempt to shutdown the system:

"It is safe to shutdown your system now"

Please Help,

Thanks Stickybit.

The automatic shutdown of a PC has to do with the following 4 things:

1. BIOS feature "APM - Advanced Power Management" must be setup correctly.

2. The power supply must be ATX type (almost all are !!).

3. Windows must be aware that APM is available.

4. You must enable the related APM features to make your PC shutdown by itself.

NOTE: The fact that windows display the screen "It's now safe to turn off your computer" instead of the "Your computer is shutting down" or something similar indicate that the some of the APM related functions are disabled.

Hope that helped. Michael Manos
