I read an article about a program for exchange 5.5 found at that helps automatically schedule resources like conference rooms. Basically, you create a mailbox for every conference room, and submit a meeting request to schedule an appointment. If its busy, a script sends back that the meeting has been declined.

Has anyone used a program like this for exchange 2k? Any thoughts/ideas/best practices?

This is very simple in E2K. I have many resources using this feature at office.

You just need to create an account [for the resource]with a mailbox. Add this as a second profile to your outlook and logon to that from your computer. Go to options, Calendar, Calendar options, Resource scheduling and set permissions as required. You are done then.

You can start using them in meetings. Very very simple...

great, thanks!

one more question...we are at a school district, which uses periods to schedule rooms. is there a good way to schedule events for these rooms by periods, instead of hours? could i make some blank appointment forms with the times of the periods? is there a better way?

You will have to adjust with hours as per my knowledge. Do some research. Best of luck.

how do i adjust hours? i tried designing a template appointment for each period (each has a unique start/end time) but when you open it, it defaults to a standard half hour meeting. Is there any way to override this default?

THe set permissions tab is disabled, how to enable it?
thanks

You should have full permission to this account. Set it from the Server by going to the user a/c properties.Set full permission to you on the resource mail box.

Exchange Advanced - Mail box rights
Add yourself with full rights.
You can also add yourself with enough rights in Security Tab if required. Normally not required.

Once the directory reflects the changes, you will be able to make changes as your wish. Don't forget to logoff and logon on your system.

I have no idea on this case. You may need more expert advice on this.
