Hi everyone. This might be something really simple to sort out, but I would like to know if there is any way that I can schedule a reboot of our server via Task Scheduler in Windows 2000 Server?? I've had a look in the options but I can't seem to find anything anywhere.

Does anyone know if it's possible to set up??

Thanks.

I have a program created from Visual Basic 6 that allows the very thing. When placed onto a fokder on your hard drive you can use task schedualer to schedual reboots on a timed basis. I believe the Windows NT4 resource kit also has a similar program. I can send you a copy if you would like. James Collins

Hi James
May I have a copy of the re-start program too.
Thankyou

I missed out my e-mail. Could you please send it to:

Thank you again

The program is SHUTDOWN.EXE and is in the NT4 resource kit

We use it as follows

Shutdown \\<server name> /r /t:60 /y /c

<Context>
/r - reboot
/t:60 - give a 60 second warning to anyone on the server
/y - answers any question with yes
/c - force shutdown

this can be ran from scheduled tasks

Will this work on Windows 2000 Servers? Eddie Martin

Two questions:
1. Does it work for Win2K?
2. Is there a parameter to re-start.

Hassan Shaikh

Yes it works on win2k servers if you install Terminal Services a standard feature included with all 2k server media.

Install it and use the Command TSSHUTDN
instead of shutdown.

the peramiter is as follows.
from a cmd prompt.

type the following:
at 23:00 /every:M,T,W,Th,F,S,Su "tsshutdn /reboot"
enter

it will reboot in 60 seconds from the reboot command once it is set. ad 60 more seconds for 2 minutes etc.

oops almost forgot that will tell it to reboot every night at 11:00pm
