We have BAB 9.0 (2020) running on WIN2000 server combined with 36 slot backup robot through SCSI.

For the last couple of years, lets say once in every 3 months, we do get errors during backup:
E3719 2006/11/08 12:00:00 806 Unable to write to media. (EC=UNRECOVERABLE DATA ERROR)
E3712 2006/11/08 12:00:01 806 Unable to close session. (EC=UNRECOVERABLE DATA ERROR)
This is not a real problem since usually a manual tape change or tape head cleaning corrects the problem.

However, the real problem is that after these error messages the backup job stops and shows in the log:
Info 2006/11/08 12:01:00 Missed Nodes/Volumes:
Info 2006/11/08 12:01:00 \\<server>\<volume1>
Info 2006/11/08 12:01:00 \\<server>\<volume2>
Info 2006/11/08 12:01:00 \\<server>\<volume3>
Info 2006/11/08 12:01:00 Backup operation failed.

This is not of course what i want because in these cases there is no backup for that particular night.

Is it possible and how, to get BAB to automatically try using another tape, instead of canceling the
whole job altogether? There are always several empty tapes in our 36 slot robot, so the resource is not a problem.

Thank you in advance for any clues, KaJuHe

I don't remember which version of Arcserve started with the "retry missed target" option. Check to see if you have that option. If so, check that option and a makeup job will kick off with anything that hasn't backed up. Be sure not to append though or it will try to go to the same tape.

Thanks.

Unfortunately it looks like this is not possible in version 9 since the "Retry Missed Targets" option can only be selected for Rotation Schemes, but not for Custom Schedule. We are using Custom Schedule.

Found out that in version 11 this is possible in Custom too:

This will give me one more good reason to upgrade our version at some stage.
