Hi all

Have two laptops, one running XP Pro, the other Vista Ultimate, both on the same Security-enabled network.

If you 'Hibernate' the XP laptop, it automatically reconnects to the network.

If you 'Sleep' the Vista laptop, it requires a manual reconnection.

Without security on the network, the Vista laptop automatically reconnects to the network.

So is the behaviour described by design and if so, is there any way of automatically reconnecting the Vista laptop to a Security-enabled network?

TIA

I can't answer your main question but did come across these semi-related articles while researching.

After you wake a Windows Vista-based computer from sleep or from hibernation, the network icon in the notification area does not show the correct connectivity status

A dial-up connection no longer works after you wake a Windows Vista-based computer from sleep or from hibernation

You may experience problems after you resume a Windows Vista-based computer from sleep or from hibernation

About the sleep function in Vista, I have put it to sleep a few times and it wouldn't shut off, the keyboard wouldn't work so I had to power down with the start button. I don't want to do this, so is there a way to set the sleep thing so it does just what you want it to do. Go to sleep and wake up without pushing the start button. Thanks, Thom

Hey thanks for all the useful sites and info, which I can see is going to take me awhile to sort through. Thank God I'm happily retired; pardon me...didn't mean to show off. Thom

Before you dig too far for the answer, have you installed SP1 yet? SP1 fixes several wireless networking issues.
