Automatic creation of local users

My background is Novell, so if comparisons could be made to it...

I have inherited an Active Directory installation and have a few questions.

It appears that dynamic users are created on the local workstations when people authenticate to AD.

Is this the default behavior? I am having problems with local file system rights with these automagically created users. I can make the problem go away if I install XP on FAT32 drives (no file system security).

Here is what is happening:

Install XP Pro with current patches on NTFS drive
Install Oracle 10g runtimes and test connectivity
Install oracle enabled application, uses tnsnames.ora to resolve, application works
Authenticate to AD
Application fails claiming Oracle files not installed
Attempt to change file system security, not enough rights
Authenticate to local workstation as admin user, AD users not available to add rights to

Problem goes away with fat32.

When you log in as the Admin User you can go to control panel - Users - add user. Then add the user with the domain name for that machine with admin or poweruser rights. This way the user can install the program under thier name. This should resolve the not installed files problem.

To take this a step further. I have 300 machines to roll out. It would be problematic to install Oracle 300 times :).

There has to be a way for AD or a setting for NTFS to allow access to a directory/applicatiion for all users. I tried sharing the directory to no avail.

I have to be missing some subtle setting in either AD or on the local machine.

If the installer is in a msi file you can create a GPO to auotmatically install the software to the machines when they login.

as for the directory on the permissions tab make sure that whatever membership the users have (IE domain/users) that the permission on the folder matches as well.
