Hi,

I am writting a document which is a list of requirements. The list is of an easy structure:
R1 blablabla
R2 another blalbaalla
.
.
.
RN blay and the end

The numbers are generated automatically using "numbering" so that if I suppress one requirement the whole list is changed. The problem is that some requirements point to other requirements for example:
R45 the system must be doing this and that using info defined in R34.
So each time I make a change I must go in the text and change manually the number R34. This is certainly not a good way of working.
Anyone with a better idea?

Thanks!!!

Can I do this with figure captions that I have manually created in a txt box beside the figure? Is there anyway to insert a custom MS Word caption?

The txt box's are outline numbered, and I want to update references in the body text of the document etc.

Thanks in advance

Dave

First...generally speaking, don't use a manual textbox as a caption.

1. select the figure or table and go Insert|Reference|Caption. There are number of choices. If you have lots you may want to use automatic referencing.

2. In the body text, where you want to reference back to the figure (or table), go Insert|Reference|Cross-References.
Again, there are a bunch of choice on how you want to display the cross reference.

And as Skip mentioned, if you are using numbered items, then use Cross-Reference|Numbered Items. There are many ways to have Word make cross-references, including using hyperlinks between items.

Check out Help on Captions and Cross-References.

Hope this helps.
