I was helping a friend to solve his problem.
His problem is whenever he goes into the internet the CDROM will eject automatically. The system boots and he opens IE/Netscape and browse and it starts happening.
WIndows ME OS.

I did a series of things and fixed a lot but not this CDROM issue.

Downloaded and Updated Spybot and Adaware and it did find lot of spyware and removed all the stuff (there were nearly 200 problems). Ran for 4-5 times.

Clean reinstall of IE/Outlook Express.

Did the complete windows update.

Run AVG Antivirus and it did find 5 virus. It was not able to remove a virus in c:/_restore/temp/acoo..cpy file

Still the problem..Not sure what system file is corrupt which makes the CDROM to eject automatcally. I can play music or video cds from the CDROM.

What was the name of the virus it could not remove?
Also in a case like this, it would probably be easier to backup all the necessary stuff (favorites, documents, other relative databases, cookies and any other similar), format and reload from scratch.

Some Update here.
Finally we stopped the CDROM ejection by disbaling the System restore option in Win ME.

After disabling can we delete the _restore folder..Is it safe to disable the system restore.. any ideas

We are planning to backup and do a clean reinstall shortly also.

I'd say just do the backup and reinstall everything asap.
