We are running Windows NT 4.0 SP 6a and ARCserveIT 6.61.
Is there any way to change the system account other than running server admin? Is there a registry hack or service that can be changed? Any help would be appreciated.
Nope Nope and errr Nope. You should choose a username i.e. arcserve and use this for all backups. Changing your password every 5 mins is a bad ideajust make an account noone knows about
Thanks for the advice, but our real problem is when an administrator leaves and we have to change the password. We have over 120 servers in 100 different locations. It's very time consuming touching each of these servers.
Right, let me continue on the path that EvilOptic started us down...
Instead of using, oh , say Administrator for the ArcServeIT system account, create a new account on all the servers (or Domain(s) ) and call it ArcServe or Sysbackup, whatever you want and give it the same rights as the Admin account. Then, only let a few people know about it and what the password is.
You'll only need to change the password for the ArcServe Admin account (ie. arcserve or sysbackup) if one of the two or three people that know about the account and the password leave.
However...I would hope that you would change the regular Administrator password when an Admin leaves anyway, regardless of what ArcServe uses so this could just be duplicating work for you. Monkeylizard
