I've got a batch file with:

copy \\server\share\db\dbname.mdb \\server\share\db\dbname_mdb.bak

that works fine, but I run it manually. I'd like to set it up to run by itself at x time every day. Can this be done with a batch file?

Why not using the windows task scheduler ?

Hope This Helps, PH.

Does that utility require that the system it's running on be "up"? I don't have easy access to a server, I typically run this backup on my laptop, which I take home with me at night. I'd rather figure a way for this to run itself, if that's possible.

Tasks run through the Windows task scheduler will run at any time, provided that:
1. The computer is switched on and plugged in. If it copies to a remote share, the other machine must also be switched on at the time and the two must be network contactable.
2. The Windows account that the scheduled task runs under has sufficient priveliges (across multiple machines if necessary) to be able to complete the task successfully.
3. The Windows Task Scheduler service is running.
