I am running BE 8.6 under Windows NT 4.0 Server (SP 6a) and I'm using a Sony TSL-SA300C Autloader with the veritas drivers for the Tape drive and the changer. The problems I am having are the following:

-- The autloader is not seen under the robotic library. The tape drive is seen under Stand Alone drives and I can use 1 tape, but the backup fails once it has to go to a 2nd tape.

-- The devices that are running are sonysdx and scsi changer (The sony7000 device can not start because the device is not found) The LUN of the tape drive is 0 and the LUN of the changer/robotic arm/autoloader is 1. The SCSI BIOS settings are
* Yes Enable Sync Negotiation
* 5 MB/S
* Yes Enable Disconnect
* Yes Enable Mutiple LUNs in BIOS

I've been working on this for 40 hours now and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Justin

Don't laugh at this as I am talking from personal experience.

Is the library at the end of the SCSI chain? If so, move it. Put something else after it and terminate that normally.

I would also change the ID of the tape drive to 2.

The SCSI ID of the external tape drive is 6, the port number is 1 (b/c it's the 2nd SCSI adapter I believe) and the bus number is 0. We run a CD-ROM, Hard Drive and our external Sony TSL-SA300C as SCSI devices. Currently the Tape Drive is terminated with a plastic SCSI adapter. I will change the SCSI ID to 2 but I guess I will keep the plastic SCSI terminator on the tape drive as it is external.

Currently there are a number of users connected to our Mail/Backup server and they like to come to me and say hey my Outlook no longer responds, should I reboot? So I'm going to wait before I reboot the server. I'll let you know what I find.

Thank you,

The SCSI ID has been changed to 2 and I did a clean install of BE 8.6. I rebooted and the device configuration wizard still does not recognise the autoloader/changer. In addition, I received an error from BE that states:

Storage device configuration error.

Problems were encountered during the configuration of your storage devices. Please use the NT Event Viewer to view the Application Log for more information.

In the Application Log I received this warning:

ADAMM configuration warning.
The device driver may not be installed for device :
Identifier : SONY TSL-A300C L107.
Type : MediumChangerPeripheral.

I installed the Veritas Supported SCSI-2 MeidumChanger and the driver is started . . but I guess it's not really started.

Are there any other drivers for an autoloader??

I installed the latest ASPI drivers from Adaptec and the latest drivers for autloaders from Veritas (BNTDRIV_30.exe) but I still can't get the autloader to work.

:(

The problem was the SONY7000 driver was disabled. I enabled this and deleted the SCSI changer keys (hkeylocal machine/ hardware/ current control set/ control) and (hkeylocal machine/ hardware/ current control set/ services) I believe those are the paths for the SCSIchanger keys. And then we reinstalled the autoloader module (which reinstalls these keys and the driver) and voila! The autoloader is seen.

This cost me 89 bucks from Veritas for the phone call but just thought everyone else would like to know.
