The Auto fit feature in Excel does not work when the Wrap Text and Merge Cells option are checked in the Cell Format Alignment dialogue. This is a recognised "feature" by Microsoft. Knowledge Base Article - 212010 refers.

One solution is to place a text box over the cells where you want the merged cells to appear, but this does not grow if the amount of text entered exceeds the size of the box.

Does anyone know a way of getting round this problems, such as a macro that will adjust the cell row height and/or column width dependant on the length of the text entered?

Thanks

Try using "Centre Across Selection instead of Merging the cells. [wink]

Thanks for this response.

Whilst this does work, what I am also trying to avoid is changing the row heights, so that there is a need to merge vertically as well as horizontally across cells.
