I have a spreadsheet that does not allow me to use the autofilter option. The tabs and the information contained therein originated in Excel. I was able to autofilter prior to sending them to another user who also kept them in Excel. The spreadsheets are now back in my hands but autofilter is grayed out and I'm no longer able to use my analysis tools or macros. Can this be fixed?

I searched the web but was unable to find a solution.

Hi Skip,

The book has no protection of any kind other than macro passwords.

I just tried copying the contents of one of the tabs into a new workbook and I was able to use autofilter again.

I should have mentioned this - Copying the contents to another tab is not a solution though. Many people use the analysis tools and macros. I'm responsible for making sure the tools are available and funtional to the staff.

I played with this more last night and still can't figure out how to get my autofilter working again.

I tried clearing out all links, unhiding all sheets, and called the last user to make sure nothing was pasted in from an outside program like Access.

Any other ideas?

If you move the worksheets to a new book?
or (if that doesn't work
Copy the worksheets to a new workbook?

Does that resolve the issue?

You may want to save with the same name and location as the original to avoid issues with links (make a backup of the original before you start).

have you checked to see if there is any VBA code that may have removed the filtering option.

Gavona - Both moving and copying the sheets to a new workbook turns the autofilter back on. It seems like there would have to be a better solution though. Any ideas that would not require moving the sheets?

ck1999 - No. The macros are the same in all of my workbooks and this is the only book that won't allow me to use autofilter. Do you know of a VBA command to force autofilter back into the dropdown list?

Thanks!

If moving the sheets and any modules etc solves the issue then it surely suggests some sort of corruption in the original workbook.

try disabling macros. and then reopen workbook. I have no idea what they did. I have tried different things and have not been able to disable except by protecting the document

Thanks everyone. Maybe it is just a fluke? I will cross my fingers and hope that it doesn't happen again.
