I have just created an Access database for entering the nearly thousand sports cards that I own. I have a subform “Players Names” in which there are two fields: SportsPlayerID as AutoNumber and SportsPlayersName as a Combo Box. I have been entering data but I find myself entering the same players name several times as I go through different years. Can someone please help me to autofill the Combo Box as I’m entering letters of the name, actually like what happens in Excel, so that I realize the name already exists in the list?

The row source of the Combo Box should be a query with
Group By on the "SportsPlayerID

I thank you for your prompt and informative response, but I am sorry, I incorrectly said I had a Combo Box in the “Players Names” subform; actually in that subform I just have a Text Box for entering the SportsPlayersName. On the main form I use a Combo Box with the arrangement you suggested.

So in fact what I meant to ask was: how can I set the Text Box to fill with names as I’m entering letters of the name, actually like what happens in Excel, so that I realize the name already exists in the list and don’t duplicate it?

Is there a reason that you do not use a combobox on the subform? It would allow you to have what you want quickly, rather than more slowly with code.

Because I'm a bonehead rookie still getting confused with the simple things. This is my first "big" project. Of course to using a combo box there. That's what I want. Very sorry for the silly questions but thanks for both of your answers.
