AutoExpect - Automate Telnet Scripting and other programs

Hi All,

Yesterday I had posted a question on automating a telnet script and was sent a reply about a current thread that is basically the same as the thread I posted.

Upon hearing about expect, I had continuously searched the net to find more info. As I have read other threads and realized that there are many that are just like me and are not fimilar with Expect I thought I post a help tip as well as receive some assitance. During my search I came across AutoExpect which will basically write the expect code for you. See attached link.

The Catch:

So far I have downloaded TCL/TK 847 and Expect for windows 1.0 from ActiveState. I also found autoexpect.man and downloaded that as well.

I have yet to figure out how to use autoexpect or whether or not I have all the files that are required to run autoexpect.

Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciate.

Autoexpect is included with the expect package. The script it will generate will probably replicate your keystrokes and movements similar to winrunner but will most likely require cleanup. From a dos prompt type autoexpect followed by the commands you want to executed and see if creates a script in your current working directory.

Hi,

thanks for the response. I did as you suggested and received an error, windows did not find autoexpect.

I did a search for the file and it doesn't exist so I'm assuming that I don't have the executable.

I read on a couple of websites that autoexpect is only available for unix machines. Is there a version that can run on windows?
