When client printers are autocreated the default paper size is always set to Letter instead of A4.

Is there a way to set the default paper size to A4?

I have tried to change the country settings for each user to Swedish (and United Kingdom) but that didn’t solve the problem.

We are running NT 4.0, TSE, SP6, Citrix MF 1.8, SP2 and hotfix ME182T007

Thanks

There are several reasons why this might come about, some dependent on printer drivers, some on the O/S.

These work in most cases:

1) On the printer server, configure the printer in both places:
Right click the printer icon, and edit the properties tab
Double click the printer icon and choose Printer, Printing Preferences

Then do the same on the MetaFrame server (as Administrator). This may not update all users - you could try doing this in change user/install mode, but in many cases it only affects new users.

2) Check out TechNet article Q257272

3) There's a link in my FAQ to an excellent document on printing

4) This issue is so common, please post back if none of this helps!

Good Luck

I have seen this problem as well.

We spent a long time trying to resolve it looking at "regional settings" in Control Panel as well as the suggestions made above.

In the end we could not get it to work consistently and gave up!! We use the following workaround:

The newer printers (HP and Lexmark Laser Jets) have an option so that you can set "Override A4/letter" to "Yes". We now set this as standard on all printers and it means that prints come straight out whether they are "A4" or "letter". This has the added advantage of not having to change the settings on documents which we share between continents.

Good luck!

It's all gone a bit quiet on this one hasn't but anyway.... We've yet to fully test this one but so far so good.

Check out the contents of c:\winnt\system32\spool\drivers
The .GPD files are all text with references to default paper size etc. Search for the text PAPERSIZE and change the value from Letter to A4 in all of them and then replicate them across the farm

Be interested to know if this works for you guys as well.

We had this problem, our first solution was to take the comment "autocreated printer" out. This meant the client printer kept its settings instead of being deleted.
We also found a policy adm that had a setting to set all client printers to A4. You will find this and loads of other ADM's at , downloads . Hope this is of some help

Having developed our ideas on this one we seem to have got it sorted now. We use mandatory profiles so default paper sizes etc are lost after each session.

In the system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3 directory (the last dir may well be different) edit all of the .gpd files that are related to your printers as follows..

*Feature: PaperSize
{
*rcNameID: =PAPER_SIZE_DISPLAY
*DefaultOption: A4

The last line is the edited one. Remove the corresponding .bud files as these are (apparently) compiled from the .gpd file.

We use auto-created printers so I start a new session which causes the .bud file to be re-compiled. Strangely the printer can then sometimes default to Legal but next time around it behaves itself. Seems to work every time but has yet to be battered by large numbers of users!

Be interested to know if this works fo you as well.G.
