We are using Networker 6.1.1 on a WIN2k Box and our autochanger is a storagetek L40 and my problem is that whenever i try to withdraw a tape from the library into the CAP it goes OK but whenever i put a new tape in the CAP i can't deposit it in the libtrary It give me an error message "Server XXXX: SjI Failure [0x 7]Invalid slot address" the same error comes when i try to reset the library!!!!

Thanks

More info please....

exactly what commands are you running .......

Dear John7
Iam using the Legato Administrator windows interface ..iam not running any command line type ...iam afraid iam not making sense!!!..please tell me if you need any more info

Try running the import and export commands from the command line... nsrjb -w -S (slot number or numbers) to withdraw to the mailbox, and nsrjb -d -S (slots) to import tapes to the library. Then inventory those slots.

Make sure you have disabled the RSM service in your W2K server. I find the some error in daemon.log everyday but no any problem in our daily operation.

HiALL
what is the RSM service(what does it stand For)...i olnly found the Removable Storage service stated which Manages removable media, drives, and libraries.

I tried the nsrjb -w -s and it worked with no errors, can you tell me why it does do it with the command line and not the GUI!!!!...i really appreciate your help on this...can you also tell me how to reset it in the command line:)

Hi,
RSM = Removable Storage service
Go to Eventviewer and check if there is any RSM error. Legato do not compatible with RSM enabled. Please refer to the Legato Networker Admin Guide.

At this point, I really don't have an explanation as to why it works from the command line and not the GUI. There are other things that work better from the command line as well, like labelling. If have more than one drive and label from the command line, it will use all available drives to label, it won't do that from the GUI. As for resetting the library, do nsrjb -HEv . The H is hardware reset, the E will eject all tapes from the drives and the v puts it in verbose mode. Hope this helps!

Hiall
i didnt find any error concerning the RSM service but i found another one:( ===>The device, \Device\Scsi\symc8xx1, did not respond within the timeout period.
i dont know whether you have passed by that error too!?

Do you mean that when you use the command line you can utilize all the tape Drives and cant do it using the Gui?...i sometimes find that through the GUI it does the same!!! ...no idea...i really appreciate your prompt response :)

Yes, If you don't specify a drive when you label, it will use all of them. As for the GUI, it will use all of them as well, as long as you don't do a long label, that's the same as specifying a drive from the command line. :)
