Autocad vs. Catia : how do they compare? I'm about to study up on one of these 2, but don't know their relative strengths & weaknesses. The work I will be doing involves complex geometries of 3D architechtural and engineering designs.

Thanks,
Chas R.

IF YOU ARE DOING COMPLEX MODELLING, GO FOR CATIA, MAYA, RHINO3D OR 3D STUDI MAX.

AUTOCAD'S 3D MODELLING IS NOT AS GOOD AS ANY OF THESE PROGRAMS. VERY HARD TO CREATE ORGANIC SHAPES!!!

You will have to evaluate your needs. These are two very different packages that deliver very different results. Catia is going to be a much pricier solution with tougher support issues. AutoCAD seems to have a much wider range with a lot more choices for third party support (especially with AEC design). Catia has full support for modules that let you create models of almost endless complexity, but in the end "What do you need?". I hope this helps a little.
