Auto-reduce for nodes

Does anyone remember back in version 3 or 4 there was an option off of the shape tool (right click on an active curve and select auto-reduce from the fly out menu)? If you had a line with a lot of nodes it would smooth it out a bit and reduce the number of node dramaticly.
I can't find it in ver9. Anyone know where it might be or if it has been dropped, renamed, or anything.

Not sure in V9 but in V10 when nodes are selectud there is a smoothing slider which appears on your top bar which does the same thing. Auto reduce is still available but you have to customise your bar by dragging the button onto it. I would look for that slider, it will give you more control.
