Anyone know of a good commercial autologoff software for netware? We have users that consistantly stay logged on at night and interfere with backups. Let me know.
thx

Thanks for the links. I'm finding alot of shareware and freeware. The powers that be don't want this type of product though. They are looking for a commercial grade product. I've found one called NetOff. EXPENSIVE!! But if they don't want shareware then they will have to pay right.
thx

If it is just the Netware connection you're concerned about, you need to set the watchdog packets to drop the connections. This can be done from within Monitor on Netware 5 (Servman on 4.x). Look at the Communications parameters, and set the required delay. If you "disable login" at night, this will stop the horribly intelligent client32 software from re-connecting itself. The problem is that you will have to "enable login" first thing in the morning!

There is a way to disable the account over a certain period of time. Wouldn't this prevent the client from logging back in?

The Login Time Restrictions tab/button of NWAdmin or in ConsoleOne is what you are looking for the NetWare Security Watchdog will test the users permission to be connected to the network against the "allowed" login times and will automatically drop the user connection if the test fails.
Be sure you give the system enough tim eto check the user login before the backup runs, about 1/2hour should be enough. Be sure to leave yourself and a backup user authorization to login for maintenance/security purposes.

Your better soulution is to find out if your backup software has a software option to allow backup of open files. ARCserve (Computer Associates) and Veritas (Seagate) has a number of open file options designed for different database types though ARCserve seems to be more comprehensive.
