Auto Dial Using Modem on PC

I don't have any clue where to start. I would like to use a PC-based auto dial feature with my Merlin Legend system, and I understand this can be done using an analog port and a modem in my PC.

I currently hold a copy of "View Call Plus" software that is intended to work on my PC for auto dialing, so I should be set on the software end.

I just need to know the basics of what wires to connect to what, and how to program the Legend system to do the auto dialing. (i.e., Do I have to link the analog port that my modem is plugged into to my digital extension somehow?)

I have Legend 7.1 Processor and a MLX-16DP digital phone.

If anyone knows of a place where I can get more info, that would be great too.

Ok, so I got it to work with an anolog phone plugged into the "phone" jack on the modem on my PC. It's hokey because I have to pick up the receiver on the analog phone at just the right time (which is inevitable even using the digital phone I'm sure), but it does work if you press the "dial" button and wait for the software to prompt you to pick up the receiver, and be sure to wait the right amount of time. Anyway, moving on...

Now I am wondering if it is possible to make the outgoing calls using my digital MLX phone.

Will a MFM (multi function module) make this possible?

If your software will allow you to flash, you can have it dial the outside number (and a # sign, to signify the end of dialing), flash, dial your extension number and disconnect. Your extension will ring with the outgoing call.

You can't transfer from an MFM. Stick with the S/L analog port.

So, anyone know any analog tones that will signify a flash? Or is that impossible?

Well, you are probably in the middle of a Catch 22 situation.

Bell Labs developed this really great gizmo called a PASSAGEWAY that connects to your MLX Phone and will (A) Turn on the Speaker and (B) Dial the number from your PC.

The only catch is, they developed it all the way to WINDOWS 98, NOT XP.

I have seen these things on eBay for only a few bucks, but unless you can use it with your PC, it's not worth that price.

I had a great deal of involvement with this product when it first came out. Heck, I still got one on my desk. But when I "UPGRADED" -or shall I say "DOWNGRADED" to XP from 98, it quit working. (THANK YOU MR. GATES!)

It was EXTREMELY handy for PROGRAMMING voice mail systems that needed Touch Tone input.

I had a BIG directory of names I could use to program them with just a click of the mouse.

Anyway, I digress.

SO, to get a FLASH, you would probably use an AT command of
AT \B(Some Number) in 100 MS intervals, (Probably about 6) and then have it call your extension.

Good Luck.......

Flash is also commonly denoted as ! in the dial string. You'll need a pause or , after to provide PBX with time to recognise the flash and return dialtone.
