Auto dial-up on boot 1

Since upgrading to Zone Alarm 3.1.395 my PC has developed the annoying habit of opening the dial-up box at boot up. If I allow it to connect, it does not connect to any specific site, nor are there any bytes sent or received. If I kill the box, processing continues as normal.

I have searched the start-up, registry, auto-exec, win.ini and system.ini with no result. I have done a bootlog start up with no result (not that I can readily identify anyway). I have done a StartUp.Log. Trouble is I don't know what the indicator would be that would call the dial-up box. Does anybody have any clues.

Startup cop from
lists all programs that start up when your computer does and gives the option to disable ones you don't want to start.
maybe this will help you track it down.

I have a list of what starts up, when I boot. What I don't have is something to point me towards the call for the dial up box. Thanks for trying to help anyway.

I wonder if ZA is wanting to check the net for updates? Is it configured to do that? Do you have an antivirus program set to automatically check for updates? Have you scanned for spyware witth Ad-aware?

Thanks for replying Kento. Yes, I've checked (first thing I looked at!) ZA for auto updates and it is set for manual. I ran Adaware (sorry should have put that in my original post) after the problem started occurring and before I ran Adaware, I updated the reference file to 24_09_02. I use Norton as a virus checker and it is set to manual update, always has been (and I've just checked), still is. Exasperating ain't it?

I've sent an e-mail to Zone Labs but they reckon 4-5 days for reply because I have the free product! I told them it might be free but they still have a responsibility to ensure that there site is secure, especially when they told me an upgrade was available!

Reason for problem found but problem not solved. It is an issue caused by Zone Labs and the latest edition of Zone Alarm (free). They have not replied to my e-mail but I found out from other sources that they have created the problem during the upgrade. They will not be issuing a patch but we are advised to wait for the next upgrade. My advice, if your current version works - leave it.

Thank for answering that, since mine is exactly the same. I have taken ZA out of the startup folder and I just open it before going onto the net.
