Noticed for the first time that if F986 is invoked on a call the transfering station cannot Xfer the call by pressing the autodial key associated with the MBox. The phone gives back a 'no button free' message.
Any comments from all?
This is not as dumb as it may seem, but in fact two separate operations.
When you press Feature 986, the Voicemail prompts you for a mailbox number, not an extension number (or DN)
Your one-touch speed-dials are programmed as on-touch extension dialing (DN)
Get it?
You phone technician assigned the voice mailboxes to be numbered the same as the extensions for simplicity, but make no mistake, extension 223 is much different than mailbox 223.
I can set my extension to go to voicemail after so many rings, but the benefit of feature 986 is to put the call directly into a mailbox, so it asks you specifically for a mailbox number.
Nj,
Yup. I knew that as soon as I had the question posed. But so many logic issues are dealt with in Norstar in an apparrant 'no brainer' way, I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. It is not out of the programming possibililties for Nortel to program hidden pointers into F986 so the auto dial buttons know to send DTMF instead of whatever it is they do send. Or some variant of my point.
But hey, thanks for the thoughtful reply.
My thinking exactly Phone Man. With the amount of complaints I`ve had about this from busy receptionists, you would think Nortel would have addressed this issue already. It`s pretty much the only complaint I seem to ever get. Even to add a separate button programming feature for a mailbox number would be an improvement. With the amount of caps they`d sell, they could get out of financial trouble...
Will you all quit MICSng it up, DID you have to start a pun contest, NRU going to find any more possibilities for punning? JerryReeve
