Auto Boot Sequence in BIOS

I have a Micro Star International P7N SLI Platinum Mobo that changes the boot sequence by itself no matter what order I put them in or if I disable all boot devices. It assigns the floppy first, then my optical drives and then my hard drives. If I assign the boot HD, it lives with that unless it can't boot for some reason and then on the next reboot, it self assigns the boot order.
I have an identical mobo in another computer that doesn't do this at all though it is a bit older.
Any suggestions welcome.

Perhaps the mobo battery is dying and can;t hold the charge, so the BIOS looses the information and has to reset to default values?

Have you tried swapping the batteries see if hat helps?

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

I agree that you should try replacing the battery, they are very inexpensive.

You also might try clearing the CMOS via the jumper on the motherboard. You will probably need to look at the manual to find this jumper if you do not know where it is.

I had a kind of similar problem just a week ago. For me no matter how I set the boot order it always tried to boot from the USB device first. It caused the PC to hang during boot if there was any type of USB Mass Storage device attached to the PC. Clearing the CMOS fixed the problem for me.

Perhaps updating the bios may help, MSI do have a free programme that handles the detection and updating of bios and system drivers.

Obvious alert:

Make sure you're saving your settings after changing them?

Just my 2¢

I'll try the battery solution first. It's a new mobo but who knows how long the battery has been in or if it's defective. As far as saving the settings goes, yes, I save them after I reset the order (again) each time.
I also know how to reset the BIOS with the jumper and will try that if the battery replacement doesn't work. The boot sequence is the only thing that changes. None of the other BIOS settings is affected in any way.
