hi!
i have a problem, i was wondering is there a way in which on the fly the data as and when it comes gets backed up onto some other system, i mean it doesnt have to be mySQL, it can be oracle too..i was thinking something like i insert/update an entry and when i do a trigger sort of procedure is run which intern does the exact same action on another database.sitting on a different machine. i hope i am able to make my self clear here. if so please can any one help.there might be already an application for that, if so that name and usage will also do. thanx a lot

You can do exactly that by setting up a slave system, which will do everything the master system does, and even catch up if the slave is turned off while the master is recieving queries, take a look at the mysql docs, chapter 4.10.3, about 'replication', this is quite easy to set up.
