I'm working with Cold Fusion 4.5.1 Enterprise for Solaris. My web server is Apache 1.3.9, and I'm are currently using PHP and msql for user authentication. I would like to change from PHP to cold fusion, and msql to oracle. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you really need Oracle?
Are you a huge coerporation in need of a super scalable load balanced database server because your sites and database will be receiving thousands - millions of hits per day?
If not then you really don't need Oracle, especially as it will cost you $50k in licensing.

If you are using NT then go for SQL Server.

Visit my books page here for recommendations on ColdFusion books to buy to learn CF.

Yes, we need to use Oracle because all of our data is coming from an Oracle 8i database. Right now, the users have to login to the website and to our oracle database. We found an oracle module for apache, which may replace msql with oracle. If the mod works, I should be able to authenticate via apache, but I'm not sure how to pass the username and password to cold fusion.
