Hi..

Has anyone tried authenticating to exchange using AD accounts?

We have a rolling project to get rid of all our NT servers, but are not yet ready to upgrade to Exchange 2000. Would like to hear if anyone has achieved this, if there's any good websites with any tips or tricks?

Cheers

5.5 works fine with W2K and AD. You can use it without the AD connector to start with, then install it later when you're ready to upgrade to E2k.

Thanks for that..

Sorry to harp on but from a server point of view, can I run the AD and NT authentication side by side? If so how do I select the Primary Windows Account from AD when creating an exchange account?

well, what do you mean "side by side"? are you planning on building a separate/new domain for W2K? If so, create a trust between that and your old NT domain, and you'll be able to choose AD accounts.

Yes we are currently doing this right now in live working environment. We had a couple of problems with mailboxes so we exmerge 2 part to PST and deleted the mailbox then waited about 30 min before adding it back while selecting the user in the new domain. Hope this helps.

Sorry not to explain fully...

My aim is to test a few trial users, using Exchange 5.5 but authenticating via their AD login? is this possible in the live environment whilst running the NT authentication for everyone else?

Yes you will have to have a new domain (your AD Domain) which you will have to create a trust with to your live NT Domain. Then just create a user in AD Domain and select the user from you AD Domain.
