Authenticated Users

It appears that somehow our Authenticated users account got deleted. If I try and add myself to the group the AD won't find it, however when I try create a GPO I see it added by default. It's weird....it seems to exist somewhere buried! What's going on? Has anyone else ever had this problem? I can't recreate it as it tells me it already exists!

Authenticated users is not a real group. You can compare it with the everyone group. Authenticated users was introduced with NT4 SP4 I believe to stickten the everyone group a little bit. It can be compared with the everyone group, but you need be authenticated by a domain controller of the domain or one of the trusted domains.
