I have having trouble with sound on my computer.

My sound card is an Aureal Vortex 8810 Audio and I am using an Intel Celeron motherboard. Windows Update does not recommed any drivers for me to upgrade to.

What happens is, when I go into a game the sound crackles and eventually does not work after that.

Then I restart and it works again.

What on earth?

was the place to get Aureal drivers years ago when they first went under, but I haven't been back in quite some time.

Goto driverguide.com
search for the file "wdm_8810.exe" "os=windows 2000"
this is W2K driver and user ratings say it works fine on xp .

After login you can try this "search"
[1]=wdm_8810.exe&jmda[0]=and&jmda[1]=and&jmda[2]=and&jmda[3]=and&jmda[4]=and

Great! I have the file named:
wdm_8810.exe

I opened it, it extracted itself into the same folder. I tried clicking on some of the files that I thought were the application, but they would not open anything. I tried them all, and then after I rebooted, this Aureal Vortex Control Panel was in the Control Panels, and I opened it, but none of the features in this worked.

ie. I don't know what to do after I download the file!!!

I found a way of getting the new driver installed. But I am still having a few problems with the sound. There are still faults, just different faults.

My recomendation.

NEVER BUY AN AUREAL VORTEX 8810!!!

Especially when you're on a limited income.

Considering Aureal has been out of business for several years now, it's not surprising they're difficult to get working in modern OS's. The cards aren't even very common to pick up anymore. VortexOfSound was a great site when it existed. :-(

You could try this open FTP: ftp://ftp.nsysu.edu.tw/Hardware/stuff/multimedia/Aureal/
There's index-e.html for english html descriptions. The site is incredibly slow for me right now, so be patient. There may be no new information or drivers there, but then again, there might be. Best of luck.

Hi Sparta, you mention you have got your aureal vortex 8810 driver installed. Can you tell me how.

I have a similar problem where my laptop doesn't have any audio devices installed; I don't even get the volume control in the system tray anymore. I downloaded the file "wdm_8810.exe", but, like you, it doesn't seem to do anything. My laptop doesn't seem to know the sound card exists.

Any help would be geratly, greatly appreciated.

First, extract the wdm_8810.exe
file. Remember where it is extracted.

Then go to the Control Panel: Sounds and Audio Devices.
Then click the Hardware tab.
Then click on Aureal Vortex 8810
Then click properties
Then click on the Driver tab
Then click update driver
Then click the button for "Install from a specified location"
Then click, "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install"
Then click Have Disk
Then browse for your extracted wdm_8810.exe folder. Select the file. Select the inf file that relates to your type of card. eg. (Game for game, audio or sound for audio, multi for multi).inf

If this totally out of whack for you, then reply. This is Windows XP based problem. If your sound card is not being detected at all, then learn how to take your laptop apart to check connections and arrangments etc. If your sound card needs replacing, then do not buy an Aureal Vortex. I do not know much about the inside of laptops.

Sorry.
