ok, i have just set up a lab and i'm very new at this so please bear with me. i have a 2501 (I know.....it sucks, but it is all i can afford), and it has 3 interfaces:
2 serial, and 1 AUI
but when i type "show ip int brief", i do not see the AUI port listed!
when i want to configure the serial port, i type "int s0", and i am able to assign ip address no problem.
but when i plug the transceiver with crossover cable from AUI port to PC NIC, and type "int e0", it keeps saying "invalid marker", with the ^ symbol pointing to the e.
i am positive i am in the right mode.
but like i said, "show ip int brief" does not even list the router as having an ethernet port......someone told me to do a "copy tftp flash" to update the software version, but how can i do that without an ethernet port?
any ideas? im really stumped....
thanks

ok this is really the last quesion :)

where can i get instructions for that?

i know lol

but i keep getting conflicting instructions. some say u can use xmodem, some say u cant.
do u personally know if xmodem will work on the 2501?

On some routers you can use xmodem without going into rommon to find out enter the following command on the enable prompt:

copy ?

This will give you a list of items. See if you have xmodem in the list. My router has both xmodem and ymodem.

And if I'm correct you will be unable to backup your current config because you can only send an IOS image to the router using xmodem not the other way around. Because of this if you put the wrong IOS on there and it does not work you will then have to mess around with rommon mode.
