Hi

I've just bought a new PC with an ATI Radeon X550 256mb grapihcs card. I've only loaded one game onto the PC - Starwars Galaxies, when I go to play the game everything seems fine, but after about 5 mins into the game it crashes, the PC either locks up so I have to reboot, or it blue screens (giving a graphics card error message).

This problem happens at various points in the game, so I'm pretty sure its not the game itself.

I've also downloaded the latest ATI Cat & Drivers, and tried adjusting the settings on both the game and the card for performance, leaving out most options so the game is running at its lowest grapihcs state, but it still locks up and crashes! I've ran the monitor through VGA and DVI but still no luck.

The only thing I can think it would be is the power to ther graphics card??

Any help, please anyone! Breif PC Spec is below:

Intel Dual Core 2.4gb
ATI Radeon X550 256mb
1gb DDR Ram
200Gb hdd

I've just bought a new PC !!

Take it back to the vendor, it's not your problem and the reason your PC has a warranty.

Try a firmware (video bios) upgrade (unless you plan to take on paparazi's correct suggestion).

Thanks all,

After looking at the performance of this card and other known issues with it, I decided to rip it out and replace it with a better one (Geforce XFX 7600 256mb XXX edition).

I highly recommend this card, its performance is faultless!

Of course it was the easy way out, but even with a working ATI X550, it would not have even matched half the performance of my new card.

I was going to mention Star Wars Galaxies would be extremely gittery on that X550, the 7600GT is a sound midrange choice and I guess the swap out and consequant stable running proves your ATI card was probably faulty in some way.
I would still be tempted to try this card in another machine before writing it off.
