I have recently installed a new system board, the ASUS P4P800S. Initially when I did a clean install of Windows XP it hung half way through the install process (when the GUI loaded). So I reinstalled with a differernt Video Card and the install was fine.

Now when I put the ATI 8500DV back in the system hangs starting Windows XP just after the GUI loads. The system will not load in VGA mode, plus it will not load in safe mode either. (Works fine with other video card).

So far I upgraded the BIOS, the Chipset Drivers, removed old video drivers. I tried all of the possible tweakings in the BIOS as well.

Any Ideas????

Does that Radeon work in other motherboards? Once were I work a power supply randomly blew up one day (did make a loud pop), and most everything in the computer was fine, but the video card was incapible of displaying high-res graphics; it could output the bios screens, initial Win98 startup screen, but after that nothing, in normal or safe mode.

Nothing I could do with that card except to toss it.

Let me test that out and I will let you know.

I've had the same problem with several new boards. AGP 4x cards that should work, just won't. Best bet is to go to an 8x AGP card like a 9600. Too bad of course, as the 8500 is a great card.
