I have just installed an ATI RADEON All-in-Wonder on a Win98 system and just can't capture video. I've downloaded the latest drivers from ATI, but after I install the Multimedia Centre and Capture Components the 'Add New Hardware' wizard tell me there is a problem with an unknown device. The TV program opens OK, and it evens seems as though the video is being captured OK, but when I try to play it back the file is invalid.

* Believe it or not, to make the ATI ALL-IN-WONDER fully
functional - TV-TUNER working along with everything else,
You HAVE to install the Web-TV update.

You will find that in,,,,,,,
Windows Setup ........ the last thing on the list.
Check the Box,,,,, let it install, and reboot.

See what happens.........

Also - *MAKE SURE* that you have the DirectX 8.1 or at least DX 8.0a........

> Also ....... try the ATI site for a FAQ on installing the All in Wonder.

YES !!!!!!!
Sometimes,,,,,,, my 10,000+ hours of working on computers comes in handy.

I got this solution from a customer that I built a really nice home entertainment system for,,,,, he watches DVD, and TV on it,,,,, (huge monitor),,,,, and he spent ABOUT TWO WEEKS to get it working, and that was the final key.
thank you richardo!

BTW: I have helped a few times with this one. It seems ATI does NOT make this easy to do,,,,, (bastar*ds)

I am having problems with the tv tuner, capturing video, will this also work with the tv tuner card....

I too have just spent a HUGE amount of time wrestling with the ATI software for an AIW Radeon on Win XP. My opinion of ATI's email tech help, based on experience, is very low. They have not only not been any help, their lack of prompt responses have caused me to waste DAYS instead of getting something accomplished.

I finally "wrote" back letting them know I've purchased my LAST ATI product until they (1) hire programmers to write software that isn't bug ridden even after a half dozen version updates, and, (2) provide useful support. I've used ATI graphics cards since the 80s - a loyal Canadian, eh - but enough is enough.

In answer to the questions above... I tried using the latest drivers and the other support files from the ATI website with no luck getting captures from either TV or tape. After the 30 minutes per version installing and rebooting, the ATI "test" software would run and report "EVERYTHING is installed correctly!" The fact that it didn't WORK didn't seem to enter the equation.

I finally stumbled on a combination of allowing Win XP to install it's native ATI drivers for the AIW Radeon, and used the latest Multimedia 8.1 software to access the tv and capture. Much to my surprise, I'm now capturing flawlessly. However, ATI's "test" software tells me everything but "the end is near" - according to it, NOTHING should work. But it does!

I will have to try installing the Windows Web TV as suggested above. If this was the problem all along, I will be really pissed. It's these kinds of situations that drive me nearly out of control with rage. ATI has the gall to take my money - lots of it - and then ignore my calls for help when their product doesn't work as advertised.

"I'm mad as hell and I won't take it anymore!" [thumbsdown]
