I bought this card for a cheap upgrade for Dell 8300 3.0. Had a Nvidia5200. I play some games but not a power gamer. My son is though and I installed a 9800Pro in hais a while back..works well.

I installed the 9800SE..I know it is old tech, but 8300 PSU won't take much..and even this card is a great improvement over the 5200.

No red. I updated drivers. Installed/uninstalled. Put 5200 back in..and only with the 5200 do I have any red. Al the color red are black.

Bad Card ? It is returnable, just want to make sure before I send it back. Bought from a Store on Ebay that does take returns. First time i bought any computer parts from ebay..probably last..

Any help greatly appreciated..

It certainly sounds faulty as described.
Can you tell me, when you initially installed the card was the fault showing straight away? if so this only goes to reinforce this diagnosis.
Many of these cards off ebay are refurbs and not new in the true sense.
With a limited warranty I would be quick to log the fault with the company.

When you boot the computer, you see the black screen with the blue, red, yellow, and green flag when Windows is loading... are those colors normal? If yes, I'd suspect the card. Otherwise, drivers.

No reds even on start. One last try tonight...clean the AGP slot..look at the card..make sure no foil missing on card slot.

Just doesn't seem to be the same quality as the 9800Pro bought from retail. Even the manual and software look irregular.

Made in China.

At $79 it was a worth trying..IF I get a working one..it will go in wifes internet (mainly) no games unit.

I am limited by the PSU on the 8300..but 5 computers in the house..gets expensive for Dad..

Thanks for your responses..

I agree it is a bad card and should be returned. You might look at a FX5500 or Radeon 9550.

I have four four PCs at home and so understand about gets expensive for Dad.

I have a friend that I saw this evening. His 9800 Pro had a similar issue. Seems the monitor cable needed to be screwed down very tight..then it worked.

Not mine..I cleaned..pulled..reinstalled..cleaned all contacts..AGP slot..

It's going back..

Thanks gents. I can return it and get a 9800 Pro for $20 more.
