Hello.

Is it possible to use an ATA2 as an extension that does nothing more than forward to an outside number when someone calls that extension?

Also, would an analog phone need to be connected to it, or would it be able to perform this function without a handset attached?

Right now, I am using a M7310 handset to enable an outside worker to receive calls at his house.

An ATA2, if it can perform this task seems like a better solution than simply having a spare handset in the closet.

The system it will be attached to is:
MICS v6.1
Startalk Flash 4 port v2
12x0 fiber trunk module
M0x16 fiber station module

Do the people inside dial the extension or is this mainly for outside people calling in on his/her DID? Just an idea but what you can do for people inside is to build a Desti Code with his extension. Then point that Desti to a route that dials their home number. For outside calls comming in on thier Target Line you could use the Line Redirect Feature. Just thinking outside the box.

We are not using DID's.

We are using simple DS trunks.

A caller calls during the day, receptionist transfers calls to their extension (252). This handset is set to call fwd to destination 555 which is routed to their home phone number.

At night, the same thing happens, but with an AA CCR tree instead of a receptionist.

I would like to keep the same programming, but lose the phone. My supervisor would rather have something like an ATA in the closet as opposed to a phone.

Ok I just set it up in the LAB I'll let you know something in a few minutes.

Ok short test but here goes
20 minutes with just ATA2 connected after setting up Call Forward to another station all works well.
5 minutes with the ATA2 unplugged and you get the "You've reached an invalid extension"

So from what has happened here I would say it will work like you want it to.
Good luck

I do have one last question.

When you had the ATA2 connected, was there an analog phone plugged into it?

Or was just the ATA2 (with no phone) attached to a station port?

Started with the phone just to forward the call then I unplugged the phone and it worked until I unplugged the ATA itself.
