Thanks to all for replying, but it still does not work. The modem connects but won't talk to the PBX. When I follow the commands in the FAQ section from Firebirdscrambler I get an error.
When I put in the commands here it responds with OK.
Any other suggestions?
you may be connecting at the wrong speed or you may need to change the DTE/DCE settings.
Verify the port speed on the switch, you can test the port by connecting to terminal or laptop with a nulmodem inplace.
To set answer speed on modem follow the same instructions from killgore but add - &n6 for 9600, or &n3 for 2400. This will force modem to only answer at these speeds
OK I have done all of this several times on different modems and still nothing. I have one usr 33.6 sportster that works. I have 1 new 56k and 2 old 56k modems that I can not get to communicate. If I use the method from firebirdscrambler I get an error. When I use kilgore's method it comes back with ok except at w&w1 nothing happens. I have tried putting in 8n6 and at&8n6 and still no communication. Any other thoughts?
when you connect a modem to a comm port with a non rolled cable.. send at return.. the modem comes back with ok. if not either your modem, cable or comm port is bad. the commands above are correct, but be sure your pc is on the same speed that you want he modem to answer at. you can't let 2 modems auto baud, then communicats to the switch at 9600 or 19200 or what ever speed you switch io is set to. do you use this comm port to talk to anything else?
Johnpoole,
You are probably right. When on the com port if I type at enter It responds with ok. One of the modems prints garbage when it is connected to the pbx. In one reply I was told to put in 8n6 to set the modem at 9600 8 none and 1. Nothing happens when I put this in. Is there another way to set the modem to 9600 8 n 1?
without the at&n to baud is set by the term sending the at set. a simple "at" sent 9600 8 none and one sets that modem. a at&w writes mem and a at&v does a show start.. what the config will be after a power cycle. i did a fast test to see if my memory was right on this one, and it checked out.
