I could really use some help here, I have an IP500v2 on R10.1, they have a LD AT&T PRI that works fine on their old legacy PBX system, I can not place LD calls when we try it from the IP Office. The PRI sync's up fine, and I can receive calls from it, but when I place a call, I get a busy signal and a cause code 96 which means "Mandatory Information Element is Missing".

I've spoken with AT&T, and found that their PRI is 4ESS/AT&T custom ESF/B8ZS and CBC (Call by Call), and that is all I know. I've configured my settings to match. On their old PBX system, when we place a call it is showing the DID number of the phone placing the call, so it appears they are allowing any number to send as the calling party.

In the ARS, I've tried various things including stripping the 1 and only sending 10 digits, leaving the 1 and sending 11 digits. For the calling party number, I've tried various numbers, including the same number that works from the old PBX, things in ARS I've tried are;

1Nsi1231231234
Nsi1231231234
1N1231231234
Ns1231231234

(1231231234=customer's numbers, I tried their main billing number, a DID, their published number etc...)

When I set the PRI to AT&T, Manager then shows 3 new tabs, TNS / Special / Call by Call and I don't know what these are for or if I need anything in there.

Can anybody give me some pointers?

See if they can switch you to an NI2 switch. They can usually do that on the fly.

can you try with capital "S" using in Shortcodes instead ARS?

1Nsi1231231234
Nsi1231231234
1N1231231234
Ns1231231234

also make sure channels are equal at both sides and licensed.

Well that was fun, so I found out that nobody anywhere really knows how to program an AT&T custom CBC PRI on Avaya Ip Office, after much trial and error, I found the magic combo. In my case, this is what worked.

PRI Switch type 4ESS / Provider = AT&T
ESF /B8ZS
Edit all channels to Call by Call for service

I needed to populate this data for the "Special" tab
011N; / N /no operator /International

And this info for Call by Call tab
[9]N; / N / Any / None
[9]1N; / 1N / Any / None
[9]0N; / 0N / Any / None

In ARS, for the LD and international routes I needed;
1N; / Nsixxxxxxxxxx (x=sid you want to send) (needed to strip off the 1)
011N; / 011Nsxxxxxxxxxx (x=sid you want to send) (needed to send 011 so it could processed by the "Special" tab on the PRI)

Everything else left blank or default values.

Hope this helps anyone or points them in the right direction.

Fun fact, Avaya support took a copy of the config and traces for their own references and documentation.
Merry Christmas!
