Anybody else have any problems with the asus p3b-f motherboard with pII/400 or similar? I have one that is locking up under 2000 or 98 only when running internet explorer. all the updates were in and what not.

Swapped out most of the hardware, rebuilt with both 2000 and 98, flashed the bios etc to no avail.

Swapped out the mainboard last week and the problem is now solved but just curious about "real world" incompatibilities that anybody has run into. Don't like to ditch a mainboard for one little problem :)

Thanks. ~ Whether you think you can or can't, you're right. Henry Ford~

"Real World" incombatibilities...RAM.
The only time I've had a P3B-F problem is with questionable RAM. If it can't really do 100mhz, it'll cause a lockup...
Wait...
A P2 @ 400mhz? on a P3B-F? Are you sure it's not a P2B motherboard?
Have you cleaned all the contacts on the slot 1? Are you positive the RAM is good? Cheers,
Jim

Sounds like a software, Hardware, or IRQ problem. It is probably not the motherboard. My guess would be to check the assigned IRQ's for conflicts first. I have seen the mouse and the Modem conflict make a computer lock up when the browser was activated. Could be something like that. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

I have a similar problem with a P2B. As a matter of fact, I have a posting on this subject in the video card forum, as I don't experience the problem while using one particular video card, but do with every other vid card I've tried.
