I have installed a new Asus A7V motherboard into a system which had a dual boot Win 98 and 2K hard drive and now I am having the following problems,

On booting, first it says "no array" then I get a blue stop screen and couldn't use the keyboard to navigate properly at some stages, such as continuing to boot. I could load windows 98, but then the problem I had was that it couldn't locate the CD drive to load the new drivers for the board.

What I want is to have the system using W2K

I ended up using fdisk to delete W2k and 98 partitions and tried to reinstall W2k by booting from the floppies, I got an error about ntoskrnl. Then I tried installing from the CD, it let me format but not load and I got the stop screen again mentioning ntoskrnl. I don't really know where to go from here. I have the board, which supports Raid, set to jumperless operation.

Can anyone offer any ideas please,

Thanks

Kathy

on the error that you are getting ntoskrnl. is there more to it something like STOP 0x0000000A in NTOSKRNL at 801453ea . This problery is not the right error but you get an idea on what is needed to correctly set you in the right direction

The exact error I am getting now, while booting from the W2k CD trying to install it, is the following. After set up has copied files to the machine I get

0x0000000A (0x00000210,0x00000002,0x00000001,0x80412e54)

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Address 80412E54 base at 80400000, DATESTAMP 384d5a76 - ntoskrnl.exe

That took some copying!

Anyway it won't let me install W2k. I am not sure if it is only this disk (IBM deskstar 60GB) I have it attached to the primary IDE controller, but of course there are the promise controllers too.

I will do a search on the above error messages but if anyone can help further, thanks.

Kathy is this a clean install of Win2k ? If it is didyou do a complete reformat of the hard drive , By this I mean , from the Win Boot Disk go to Fdisk And delete all Primary DOS Partitions reboot go right back to FDISK and REinstall the PRIMARY DOS PART , reboot and reformat&installWIN

Ok I will do that, it is difficult as it will only sometimes accept keyboard commands when starting up. Will go and use fdisk and let you know.

Thanks

Kathy

Another thing you might look at is your BIOS set up if you are having problems with your keboard and other items make sure your serup in the BIOS is correct

Hi,

I have tried deleting the partitions and formatting with fdisk. I still cannot install either W98 or W2k. What happens is that at startup it says it is scanning ide disks, then I can press esc to get a choice of boot options, however what I have noticed is that I can only choose what to boot from every 3rd or 4th startup, the other 2 or 3 times esc doesn't register or I cannot change the highlighted option. Also when booting from the W98 floppy it will bypass the startup files every other startup.

I also tried it with a completely new hard drive and have the same problem.

I am completely stuck now but will continue to search on the net.

Now it intermittently won't detect the hard drive and when it does it says disk failure. This is beginning to make me wish I had not bought a new motherboard :( I wonder if it could be the RAM

I wonder if you don't have a bad motherboard all together.
I'm not coming from your exact situation, but I have W2K and WMe running on two different A7V Motherboard platforms. I didn't have a problem reformatting and installing the O/Ss.

I have been having the identical problem attempting to install windows 98 and xp with an asus a7v333-r board. I've tried with multiple drives in different ide/raid configurations, and am unable to figure it out. Has anyone out there been able to install windows to an asus a7v333r? Asus has yet to respond to any of my e-mails, and their website offers not techinical support information on the 333r.

Yes, I finally got it installed, in my case it was two things,

1. I had the board set for jumper free operation, but even so, I still had to set the jumper for a single drive, as it was shipped with the RAID configuration as default.

2.I might have figured out that this was the problem earlier, had I not had the RAM installed in the wrong socket- this gave me all sorts of stop errors during installation. It had installed it in Socket 0, nearest the CPU, but when I moved it to the socket furthest away from the CPU, everything worked like a dream and I have managed to install Windows 2000.

So that was my problem, I love the motherboard now. Will set it up with a RAID configuration soon.

Hope you get your problem sorted out

Kathy
