When I was pushing the sms clients to computers, I noticed that some of them are not 'assigned'.
Does anyone know the reason for this ?

What does it actually mean to be assigned ?

assigned to a site, it sounds like. Check the ip address on the client and boundaries on the server

The strange thing is that all the clients are in the same domain and subnet and when I do the discovery of the site (on the computer of the client) I get the right site code.

I think it might have something to do with a previous install of an sms client on those computers ( when I was still testing). Are there thing I can't do when they are not 'assigned' or doesn't it make any difference ?

An unassigned client is no client hence you cannot remote control him or send any advertisements !

Make sure to clean all steps of your previous SMS Installation by running "20CliCln.bat /SCRUB" and then manually cleaning the registry before re-installing....

Hope this helps you - Happy Easter !

Cheers,
Chris

Yeah I agree with Chris you'll need to remove that client and delete the sms reg key and the NAL reg key.
