Hi guys, I recently inherited a job with no previous documentation of the network and setups. The A/C guy is needing an IP add so he can monitor the A/C system remotely. We have a win2008 server running a DNS and DHCP server virtually. How do I assign an IP address/port for him to remote in? Thanks
Appreciate all the help or suggestions.

I take it the AC unit is on the same network as your server and the rest of your IT kit?
Find a free ip - check your DHCP scope - 2008 SBS by default has a scope from 192.168.1.11-254 if I remember rightly (it will reserve 254 too, if the router is on that).

So, assuming you're using the default scope, and assuming you have no more than 10 devices requiring a static IP, you should have some free.
Assign the NIC on the AC an address (eg, 192.168.1.8) - check DHCP first, as that may have assigned one already, give it the gateway address (get them from running 'ipconfig' on your server (or check DHCP scope options)), create a NAT rule to allow access to 192.168.1.8 on the port or port range that the AC guys give you.

Away you go...

Thanks for your reply. Had to assign a new IP which was the easy part. The difficult part was find what the router IP, login and password. Was not documented anywhere. Took awhile to finally get everything I need.

Update here. The router is FreeBSD. The AC is setup on an internal PC using WebCTRL for access and monitoring. They want a default HTTP ports but I cannot assign those ports since we are using those for exchange.
When I assigned the ports, other than the (HTTP ports), it will not go to that PC. Set the ports in the firewall and the NAT on freebsd router. What else am I missing?
