I've used a short code with commas to do this. Back in version 2.1 I needed to forward a phone to a long distance number but they had account codes for LD.
I created a short code with the 1-321-555-1234,,,,789 in the telephone number field where 789 was the account code. Then I forwarded the number to the short code.
Is the account code for the provider of the dialtone or for your call accounting. If it is for your call accounting then put a Account code button on the phone and you can enter it at any time.
If you use a 9XXXXXXXXX/Dial/N shortcode and Force Account Code, then the Account code will be required after you dial the number. This will work only if you know the number of digits that you need to be called. For example,in Greece where i live, all numers contain 10 digits.

My guess is once you hang up the call is gone and there is no way to enter the code. If you force every ext then it will make you put on in before it will send the call.
if you use an account code button then you can press it at any time even when you are talking to someone and enter the code. They do not hear any of the touch tones as you do it.
